Yoga for One Earth-One Health

Saurabh Dixit

Introduction:-

The description of the Earth comes again and again in Hindu scriptures. The Earth is also called Dharti, Bhu, Dhara etc. Due to its unlimited capacity to bear and setting a model like Everest for tolerance, the Earth is given the status equal to Mother in Indian culture.

From a scientific and geographical point of view, the Earth is the only planet in the solar system full of life possibilities. Where there is 29% terrestrial area and 71% aquatic area. Being equipped with vast oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, glaciers, the Earth is also called the blue planet. On the basis of facts, the Earth originated about 4.54 billion years ago. First of all, aquatic organisms developed and later, by adapting their organs to the terrestrial environment, gradual development of organisms started on land as well. This development gave birth to biodiversity.

Due to the continuous process of biological evolution on earth, millions of species got destroyed and millions were also created and even today science is constantly engaged in the discovery of new species in water, land and sky. This is when the earth is 15 crore kilometers away from the sun which is considered the main source of life and it takes 8 minutes 20 seconds for the sun’s light to reach the earth. Although millions of living beings live on earth, among them man is considered the most intelligent. This same man is using 1510-1611 million hectares as crop land, 2500-3410 million hectares of land as pasture, 3143-3871 million hectares of land as natural forest, 126-215 million hectares of land as established forest, 66-351 million hectares of land as urban area and 356-445 million hectares of unused land for production. Overall, writing about the earth is like showing a lamp to the sun.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to Yoga Day is historic and global. In 27 September 2014, he proposed “International Yoga Day” at the UN General Assembly, calling yoga an invaluable gift to humanity — a motion that received support from a record 177 nations. On 11 December 2014, the United Nations declared to celebrate 21 June every year as International Yoga Day. After this, International Yoga Day was celebrated for the first time on 21 June 2015. Due to his efforts, yoga has gained global recognition. Modi himself leads yoga sessions each year on this day, inspiring millions worldwide. Under his leadership, yoga has transcended from being a part of Indian heritage to becoming a universal tool for physical and mental wellness, symbolizing India’s soft power and ancient wisdom.

Development in the modern Scenario:-

Today, while the advancement of science has made the lives of people easier, it has also put them in a position to face many unwanted challenges. Today, increasing pollution and climate change have disrupted the life of people on earth. Yoga has brought a ray of hope to face such serious challenges.

What is Yoga:-

Yoga is an ancient Indian method whose purpose is to establish a beautiful coordination between the body, mind and soul. In the Dharmakshetra Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna saysयोगः कर्मसु कौशलंYogahKarmasuKaushalam, that is, achieving skill through work is Yoga. If yoga is seen in the context of equality and balance, then we can remain the same in opposing emotions like happiness-sorrow, respect-disrespect, success-failure etc. Yoga is the form of restraint of the tendencies of the mind, from this it can also be said that yoga is the name of internal tendencies.

The dreadful phase of Covid:-

In 2019, when a virus named Covid, spread from China, turned the whole world into a pile of dead bodies, then the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Modi, trusted the Indian intellect, as a result of which scientists created a Swadeshi vaccine, which could save the lives of the citizens of our country and many other countries. At that time, when offices, schools, bus stands, railway stations, cinema halls, markets etc. were all closed. People were imprisoned in their homes. There was an atmosphere of fear. At that time, yoga reduced stress in people, increased immunity and strengthened people mentally. During that time, the most benefit was received by those professionals who worked from home. They kept themselves healthy by doing Tadasana, Vakrasana, Padhastasan, Trikonasana, Bhadrasana, Bhujangasana, Shavasana, Pawanmuktasana and Pranayama.

Yoga in the Evening Too:-

To remove the fatigue of the whole day, you can do Paschimottanasana and Uttanasana in the evening, which reduce stress from the spine. You can do Vajrasana after dinner. But do all the asanas only after consulting an expert. From this we can understand that the importance of yoga prevalent since the time of Adiyogi Lord Shiva, Shri Krishna, Maharishi Patanjali has been taken to every household by great personalities like Yogi Arvind, Swami Ramdev etc. in the later modern era.

Why practice Yoga? :-

Yoga is a kind of homeopathic medicine which destroys the disease from its root, even if delayed. The theme of Yoga Day in 2025 is One Earth One Health, which is a policy requirement today. Regular yoga practice strengthens muscles, improves blood circulation and increases the efficiency of the digestive system. The heart remains healthy, which keeps high blood pressure and diabetes away. The efficiency of the brain increases, due to which we can take better decisions. When yoga balances the body and mind of a person, it also lays the foundation of being environmentally aware in the same person. Yoga not only makes a person healthy but also makes him responsible towards nature and society. An aware yogi contributes as much as possible to the well-being of society, environment and economy. Yoga promotes unity and harmony, teaches us self-control and discipline. It awakens positive feelings within us. It removes negative effects, which improves the quality of our overall life. Therefore, yoga should not be considered only a personal activity but should be considered a global responsibility. It is not just a matter of practice, but by assimilating yoga in policy, education and behavior, we can play an important role in social welfare by making our life better.

Earth and Yoga: Complementary to each other

If seen in the present scenario, Earth and Yoga seem to be complementary to each other. If the Earth itself gets destroyed, all activities will come to a halt. Earth is our home which provides us with the resources and environment necessary for life. If the Earth remains safe, the ecosystem will remain safe due to biodiversity and we will be less affected by global warming. If the Earth is not healthy, how will we be able to remain healthy? Polluted air, water, and food affect our health. In simple words, Yoga is an effective solution to this global crisis. The World Health Organization (WHO) also believes that human, animal and ecological health are complementary to each other. According to a statistic, the root cause of about 75% of diseases is animals which are human companions. Therefore, the solution to all health crises is not possible through modern medicine but through natural lifestyle and environmental balance.

Conclusion

Today’s time is surrounded by imbalance and ill health. Diseases are increasing due to climate change and irregular lifestyle. The life-giving earth is being continuously exploited in the process of indiscriminate development. Today, to maintain the possibilities of life, there is a need to adopt a lifestyle full of yoga keeping in view the need for water conservation, less use of oil, more use of green energy, less use of plastic, use of renewable energy sources and more tree plantation. Yoga inspires us to live with simplicity, restraint and in connection with nature, so yoga for one earth, one health has become not just a theme but a necessity. Therefore, do yoga yourself and inspire others too so that we can make the earth better with our collective efforts.
