In a region where terrain challenges traditional transport, harnessing our rivers-like the Jhelum and Chenab-for inland navigation could be revolutionary. Water transport can provide eco-friendly, cost-effective alternatives for cargo, tourism, and daily commuting, while also generating employment and reducing road congestion. Scenic cruises and cargo boats can transform connectivity, especially for remote communities. However, this vision demands coordinated action from the Inland Waterways Authority, local departments, and private stakeholders. Investments in infrastructure, safety, and electric vessels are essential. If implemented with urgency and efficiency, this initiative could redefine regional development and sustainability. Our rivers, long symbols of heritage, now hold the promise of progress.
