NAGPUR, Mar 22: Himachal Pradesh (HP) Governor Kavinder Gupta today stressed the importance of preserving linguistic identity, urging young people to take pride in their mother tongue while addressing the 29th National Session of Bhartiya Yuva Sansad in Nagpur.
The session, held at Maharshi Vyas Auditorium, witnessed participation of around 600 youth from across the country who deliberated on key national issues.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that language is not merely a tool of communication but the soul of a nation, reflecting its culture, traditions and collective memory.
He expressed concern over the growing hesitation among the younger generation in speaking their native languages, terming it a serious cultural warning.
He maintained that while learning English is important in today’s globalised world, it should not come at the cost of one’s own linguistic roots.
He added that children who think and express themselves in their mother tongue tend to be more creative, confident and deeply connected to their heritage.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Governor said his consistent use of Hindi at international platforms, including global summits, reflects India’s cultural confidence.
Governor Kavinder Gupta said it sends a strong message that India can engage with the world while staying rooted in its own identity.
Highlighting the country’s rich linguistic diversity, he said languages such as Kashmiri, Dogri, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Sanskrit collectively represent the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
He noted that the multilingual participation in the Yuva Sansad was itself a reflection of India’s unity in diversity.
The Governor also called upon youth to play a leading role in realising the vision of a developed India by 2047.
He urged them to see themselves not just as beneficiaries of progress but as active contributors to nation-building.
Emphasising the need for a balanced approach, he said development must be accompanied by cultural confidence and social responsibility.
He further highlighted key initiatives of the Central Government, including the National Education Policy, Startup India, Skill India and Digital India, stating that these programmes aim to empower youth with skills, innovation and opportunities for growth.
Earlier, the Himachal Pradesh Governor paid tributes to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and former Sarsanghchalak Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar at Smriti Bhoomi in Nagpur, recalling their contributions to nation-building, discipline and social unity.
